Baroness Topless Portrait with Cobra Tattoo
G.I. Joe’s Baroness was on my fan list of drawing I wanted to create using my style. A little information about the Baroness can be found here. I tend to disagree a little with the assumption that the Baroness was made to be a character of beauty. I would like to argue that she has has kind of a dominatrix look to her with the jet black hair, the black suit with read emblem, and the almost pail looking skin complexion. Black, Red, and White have all been associated with the color of Horror, and Horror has come to have a meaning of not just being scary but also being overbearing. I always though the Baroness character was made to look unattractive by the use of her circular nerd glasses. That’s a sign of intelligence and intelligence was not a call sign for beauty in a woman. (Some may still argue that its not in this day and age either.) Just so you know however, I disagree with intelligence not being a sexy turn on. I wanted to play up the sexiness of the Baroness in a way that the cartoons denied us (after all it was just for kids.) I wanted to give her a elegant softness but not make her a slut. So after all of my ideas about how she needed a whip with a full body pose and some kind of weird black get up I came to my senses. There is really not that much to her character on the surface. She is essentially just a ninja intelligent officer for Cobra. So instead of doing all the crazy things I wanted to do with her, I just simplified the image to this. Simple,in design yet complex in the content its sexuality. I desired to give he her trademark Cobra symbol, but without her suit I had to think of the placement. So I would imagine that she would have it in the position of her chest right before the line of her bust starts. I even contemplated the size. Maybe next time I would do a back pose and place the symbol in the small of her back. Ha ha just a tease of what could be possible.
